Fairytales, the last ever recording of Radka Toneff, is a jazz-infused masterpiece.
The haunting and beautiful album was recorded at the Grieg Hall in Bergen over the course of three days in February 1982. One of the earliest digital recordings, Fairytales was released on vinyl for the Norwegian Jazz Federation’s then newly launched label, Odin.
The recording’s subsequent journey involves many twists and turns, including missing master tapes, forensic listening tests and some painstaking restoration work. Now encoded using MQA technology, the definitive version has been recovered and captured in a special MQA edition.
