SEED Ensemble launches The Master Sessions collaboration

The inaugural Master Sessions event at London’s British Grove Studios on 5 February, featured a live audio stream of SEED Ensemble to audiences at Bluesound dealerships across UK, Europe and South Africa.

The event also included a music and tech-themed panel discussion moderated by British Underground’s Crispin Parry, with Justin McKenzie of Jazz re:freshed and SEED Ensemble members Cassie Kinoshi and Shirley Tetteh.

The panellists all described their individual routes into the ‘new jazz scene’: from DJ-ing and studying at Trinity Laban, through to workshops at Tomorrow’s Warriors and jamming sessions at Kennington’s Toulouse Lautrec. They also discussed the jazz scene around the UK, highlighting the cities of Glasgow and Leeds as particularly vibrant music hotspots. All agreed that technology, in particular streaming, has made music much more accessible. “With streaming, you can discover jazz tracks without having to buy and listen to a whole jazz album,” pointed out Shirley, making it easier to sample different genres. Justin pointed to cross pollination fuelling new music discovery, and concluded with the following advice, “Reach to your culture for musical inspiration.”

The next Master Sessions on 19 March will feature the remarkable talents of tuba player Theon Cross, performing live from Austin’s Orb Recording Studios, streaming in MQA quality to Bluesound’s network of North American dealers.
